Pushkar Lake and its ghats

Pushkar has no airport and only a small railway station, so most travellers reach it through Ajmer, just 14 km away. Whether you are coming from Delhi, Jaipur or are already in Ajmer, this guide covers the fastest and cheapest ways to get to Pushkar, plus extra tips for the Pushkar Fair 2026 (17–24 November), when roads and trains are at their busiest.

Delhi to Pushkar

Pushkar is about 400 km from Delhi. The train to Ajmer is the most comfortable option for most travellers.

By train (recommended)

  • Ajmer Shatabdi Express (12015): leaves New Delhi early in the morning and reaches Ajmer around midday, in under 7 hours. It runs daily.
  • Vande Bharat Express (Delhi Cantt – Ajmer): the fastest train, at around 5.5 hours. It does not run every day.
  • Ajmer Jan Shatabdi (12066): an afternoon train from Delhi Sarai Rohilla, arriving in Ajmer late evening.
  • Overnight trains such as the Yoga Express from Old Delhi arrive in Ajmer early in the morning, which saves a night’s stay.

Timings and running days change, so always check the latest schedule on IRCTC before you book. From Ajmer Junction, take a taxi, auto or bus to Pushkar (see below).

By road

The drive is about 400 km and takes roughly 6.5 to 7.5 hours using the Delhi–Mumbai Expressway and NH48 via Jaipur. The older NH48 route via Kotputli is slightly shorter but usually slower because of traffic. Expect several hundred rupees in tolls each way.

By bus

Rajasthan Roadways (RSRTC) runs Volvo buses from Bikaner House in Delhi, and many buses to Ajmer leave from ISBT Kashmere Gate. Private sleeper buses also run overnight. The journey takes around 9 hours, so an overnight bus means you arrive in time for sunrise at the fair.

By air

The nearest airport is Kishangarh (KQH), about 45 km from Pushkar, but flights are limited. Jaipur International Airport, about 145 km away, has many more flights. From either airport, hire a taxi to Pushkar.

Jaipur to Pushkar

Pushkar is about 145–150 km from Jaipur, which makes it an easy day trip or a short stop on a Rajasthan tour.

  • By road: about 2.5 to 3 hours on NH48 towards Ajmer, then over Nag Pahar to Pushkar. A private taxi is the most convenient option, especially with luggage.
  • By bus: frequent RSRTC buses run from Jaipur’s Sindhi Camp bus stand to Ajmer, and some go directly to Pushkar.
  • By train: many trains connect Jaipur and Ajmer in about 2 hours. Continue to Pushkar by road from Ajmer Junction.

Ajmer to Pushkar

This is the last and easiest stretch: about 14 km over the Nag Pahar hills, with lovely views as you drive down towards Pushkar.

  • Bus: local RSRTC buses run every 15–20 minutes from the Ajmer bus stand and cost only a few tens of rupees.
  • Taxi: roughly ₹400–₹600 one way, taking 25–35 minutes.
  • Auto-rickshaw: roughly ₹200–₹350. Agree the fare before you start.

Fares rise during the fair, so treat these as a guide. If you have time, spend a day in Ajmer first: visit Adhai Din Ka Jhonpra, the Nasiyan Jain Temple and watch the sunset at Ana Sagar Lake.

Tips for reaching Pushkar during the fair

  • Book trains early. Seats to Ajmer for 17–24 November sell out weeks in advance.
  • Start early in the day. Traffic over Nag Pahar builds up through the morning, especially on the last days of the fair and on Kartik Purnima.
  • Expect to walk. Some roads near the ghats and the Mela Ground may be closed to vehicles, and the town centre is easiest on foot.
  • Consider staying in Ajmer. Rooms are easier to find and cheaper, and Pushkar is only 30 minutes away.
  • Carry cash. Small vendors, autos and parking often prefer cash or UPI.
