The best time to visit Ajmer and Pushkar is from October to March, when days are warm and sunny and nights are cool. November brings the Pushkar Camel Fair, December and January are perfect for sightseeing, and March brings Holi. April to June is very hot, and July to September is the monsoon, which turns the Aravalli hills green but brings humidity and rain.
Here is what to expect each month, written by locals.
Ajmer and Pushkar weather at a glance

Temperatures are typical averages and can vary from year to year.
Month by month
January
Cold mornings and nights, sunny days. One of the best months for sightseeing, though early mornings can be foggy. Makar Sankranti (14 January) fills the sky with kites. Bring a warm jacket for the evenings.
February
Perhaps the most comfortable month of the year: warm days, mild nights and clear skies. A great time for Ana Sagar Lake, the hill temples and walks around Pushkar Lake.
March
It starts to warm up. Holi in Pushkar is famous, with music, colour and crowds of young travellers in the main market. If you want a quieter Holi, celebrate in Ajmer instead. Gangaur, a festival celebrated by Rajasthani women, falls in March or April.
April to June
The hot season. Afternoons are often above 40°C, especially in May and June. Hotels are cheapest and temples are quiet, but plan sightseeing for early morning and evening only, drink plenty of water, and rest in the afternoon. Not recommended for families with small children or older travellers.
July to September
The monsoon brings relief from the heat. The Aravalli hills turn green, Foy Sagar and Ana Sagar fill up, and the weather can be beautiful between showers. It is also humid, and heavy rain can disrupt plans. Teej, the monsoon festival, is celebrated in July or August with swings, songs and green clothes.
October
The rains end and evenings become pleasant, though days can still be warm. Navratri and Dussehra bring garba and festivities. Diwali usually falls in October or November, when markets and homes are lit up with lamps.
November
Pleasant weather and the biggest event of the year: the Pushkar Camel Fair. In 2026 it runs from 17 to 24 November and ends with the holy dip on Kartik Purnima. It is the most exciting time to visit Pushkar, but also the busiest and most expensive, so book early. See the day-by-day schedule.
December
Cool, sunny days and cold nights. The Urs of Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti at Ajmer Sharif Dargah follows the Islamic calendar (the first six days of Rajab), so its dates move about 11 days earlier each year. The 815th Urs is expected around mid-December 2026, with the exact dates set by the moon sighting. Lakhs of pilgrims come to Ajmer for the Urs, so the old city is extremely crowded and hotels fill up. Pushkar is also busy over Christmas and New Year.
Which time is best for you?
- For sightseeing and good weather: late October to February.
- For festivals and culture: the Pushkar Fair in November, the Urs in Ajmer (December in 2026), or Holi in March.
- For quiet temples and lower prices: February, late March, or the monsoon months.
- For families: November (outside the fair’s last days) to February. Read our Pushkar Fair with kids guide.
- Avoid if you dislike heat: April to June.
Crowds and prices
Hotel prices are highest during the Pushkar Fair, the Urs, Christmas and New Year, and on Indian long weekends. Book these periods weeks in advance. Prices are lowest in summer. Ajmer and Pushkar are only 30 minutes apart, so if one is full or expensive, stay in the other. Read how to reach Pushkar.
